About CERT-FR
CERT-FR is the French national and governmental CERT/CSIRT, in charge of preventing and handling the technical impacts of cybersecurity related incidents. It is operated by ANSSI, the National Cybersecurity Agency of France.
CERT-FR's missions
The main missions of CERT-FR are the following:
- Respond to technical assistance requests following cybersecurity incidents: receiving reports, analysing effects, identifying correlations, defining recovery solutions;
- Process security alerts and respond to cyber-attacks: technical analysis, information exchange with other CERTs, technical reviews;
- Detect attacks targeting governmental information systems — continuously operates a security monitoring service (SOC) for the benefit of State services;
- Detect information systems' vulnerabilities, through a watch on most commonly used products;
- Contribute to preventing cyber-attacks, by communicating best practices;
- Coordinate incident prevention and response with stakeholders and partners — involving CSIRTs, ISPs and network operators.
CERT-FR's constituency
CERT-FR's primary constituents are:
- Public organizations: ministries, institutions, national courts, independent authorities, local authorities;
- Operators of vital importance (OIV): public or private entities operating equipment and facilities necessary to the French nation's survival;
- Operators of essential services (OES): entities depending on networks or information systems, whose essential services' interruption would have a significant impact on the economy or society.
CERT-FR is not designed to support individuals and SMEs — such support is provided by cybermalveillance.gouv.fr.
National and international cooperations
CERT-FR is a member of several national and international networks:
- InterCERT France — various CERTs operating incident response primarily in France;
- EU CSIRTs Network — incident response teams of all EU Member States;
- Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) — more than 600 private or public CSIRTs.
